Abstract

Introduction: Long Length of Stay (LOS) in dypsnea patients in the Emergency Room (ER) can cause psychological disorders in the family. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between LOS and the anxiety level of dyspnea patients' families in the emergency room. Method: The research design uses a cross-sectional approach. The sample was 92 family of dyspnea patients, selected by purposive sampling techniques. Study variables included LOS and anxiety levels. The instrument used is a questionnaire. The data were analyzed with the Spearman-Rank test. Result: The results of this study obtained the average LOS of patients for 6 hours 3 minutes and family anxiety levels of 6.5% severe anxiety, 25% moderate anxiety. 44.6% had mild anxiety and 23.9% had no anxiety. The results of the analysis found a significant relationship between LOS and family anxiety levels (p-value: 0.018) with a positive correlation value (r = 0.246). Conclusion: As an effort to improve services in the emergency room, efforts to suppress LOS are needed to reduce family anxiety levels.
