Hypertension in the elderly is a condition characterized by elevated blood pressure above normal levels. Many elderly individuals with hypertension tend to neglect their health, which can exacerbate their condition. One of the behaviors observed in these elderly individuals includes non-compliance with medication, failure to attend health check-ups at healthcare facilities, and not managing their daily lifestyle. The aim of this study is to understand the coping behaviors of elderly individuals with hypertension at Puskesmas Taman Sidoarjo. This research is descriptive, using a case study approach. Sampling was conducted using total sampling, involving 55 respondents who are elderly individuals aged over 59 years and diagnosed with hypertension. Data collection was performed through interviews, where patients' blood pressure was measured first and then they were interviewed according to the available questionnaire. Data analysis used univariate analysis. The results of the study on elderly individuals with hypertension during April 2024 at Puskesmas Taman Sidoarjo show that the majority of these elderly individuals employ positive task-oriented coping behaviors (70.9%), positive ego-oriented coping behaviors (76.36%), and nearly all use positive coping strategies. It is recommended that healthcare services improve their support related to coping strategies for elderly individuals with hypertension, particularly focusing on psychological support, lifestyle management, and overall health support. Additionally, it is suggested that patients maintain a healthy lifestyle and dietary habits.
